Donnie A. Lee is the founder of the Bullsboro Bluegrass Band. He is a native of Kansas, Georgia, a community in Northwest Carroll County and now lives in Breman Ga. Donnie has two daughters, Lorri and Lisa. One wants to be a banjo player and the other a fiddler. Donnie wishes them luck. Donnie retired in 1996 from the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles and has since become a consultant. His hobbies outside of music include golf and street rods. He owns a 1953 Chevy pickup (finished), a 1934 Chevy 4 door sedan (unfinished), and a 1968 VW Bug (restoring as original). Donnie plays both acoustic and electric bass in Bullsboro and also plays the banjo. He would like to play the fiddle but claims that his daughters hid the bow when he started to learn. Donnie has been the lead singer for Bullsboro since it was founded, but now is letting Zach and David help him with some of the lead work.

Donnie likes all kinds of music (except Rap & Opera) and has a wide range of musical influences. He names Bill Monroe for being able to create and develop the sounds in his head, Flatt & Scruggs for the tradition that they brought to the music, and the Stanley Brothers for the mournful material that they brought to bluegrass music. He also names the Country Gentleman for their creativity, The Seldom Scene for their diversity, George Jones for his soulful county music, Larry Sparks for showing us that “B” is not the only key. J.N. and Onie Baxter and the Bluegrass Five have and continue to be great influences on Donnie, as well as the maternal of his family for the love of gospel music and harmony singing. He’s also been influenecd by all of the jam sessions and weekend pickers that kept the sound of bluegrass alive and flourishing
